Announcing the MindMax Research Fellowship Proposal

  • As announced at the annual conference in St. Louis, NAASS, in partnership with MindMax LLC, is sponsoring research intended to advance Association members’ understanding of the role of summer and intersessional programming in the advancement of student progress and student success in higher education.
  • The fellowship has an overall duration of fifteen (15) months including a 3-month startup window. The total value of the fellowship award is a maximum of ten thousand US dollars (US $10,000). 
  • The submitted research budget may include individual stipend, as well as equipment, travel, and other related expenses that can be demonstrated as being directly related to work for the proposed research objective.

Save the Date for the 2024 Annual Conference 

  • Thank you to all who were able to attend the 59th Annual Conference in St. Louis, MO! 
  • Save the date for next year's conference in San Diego, CA - Nov. 9-13, 2024. 
  • The 2024 Annual Conference will be a special one - NAASS will be celebrating it's 60th annual gathering.

Stay Connected with NAASS through the Membership Portal 

  • NAASS offers plenty of ways to stay connected after the annual conference. 
  • Once of those ways is through our membership portal
  • The NAASS membership portal, which is available to renewed members for 2023-2024, gives you the opportunity to  connect with colleagues from across North America, share best practices/ideas related to summer and special sessions, and interact with higher education administrators directly on one easy-to-navigate platform.
  • Instructions on how to sign in and interact on the portal have been sent to NAASS members via email - contact us if you have any questions or encounter obstacles when signing in. 

Spring 2024 Webinar Series 

  • In a few weeks, the 2024 webinar series will be announced. 
  • Monthly webinars are open to all renewed NAASS members for 2023-2024.
  • These one-hour Zoom sessions help keep members connected with one another and in tune with best practices in summer/special sessions. 
  • Webinar topics will include how to grow enrollment in summer sessions, analyzing winter session, pre-college programming, and more. 
  • Contact us to lead a webinar or to learn how you can help plan the series.

  • The Administrative Council is the governing body of NAASS. 
  • The Council consists of the officers of the Association: the President, the President-Elect, the Vice President for Membership and Communication, the immediate Past President, and the Treasurer; the Vice President from each of the geographic regions designated; and committee chairs.

Preparing for the 2023 Annual Conference

  • In this month's digital newsletter we're focusing on the 59th annual conference in St. Louis, which is right around the corner!
  • If you're attending the conference, you should have a received an email from naass@naass.org with details on the conference schedule, NAASS utilizing Slack as the communications tool for the conference, logistics for the group excursion, a general overview of the closing banquet, and more. 
  • Learn more about the conference here, and contact us if you have any questions or if you didn't receive the conference welcome email. 

Shipping Materials to St. Louis 

  • If you plan to ship materials to the conference hotel in St. Louis, ship to the following address:

The 2023 NAASS Election Results are In! 

  • The vote is in! Congratulations to Christopher Pevey Harry (NAASS President-Elect, University of Wisconsin-Madison), Ashley June Moore (North Central Regional Vice President, Washington University in St. Louis), and Anne Van Arsdall (Western Regional Vice President, Colorado State University), on being elected to leadership positions within the Association. 
  • Learn more about ChristopherAshley, and Anne, as they share their strategic visions for NAASS - they will assume their new leadership positions at the annual conference in November. 
  • An official announcement will be shared soon with membership. 

Nominate a NAASS Member for an Award - Deadline Friday, September 29 

  • NAASS wants to highlight the great things that our members are doing in summer/special sessions, as well as recognize those individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the Association. 
  • Nominations are currently open for the Distinguished Service AwardHonorary Life Membership, and well as for several Creative and Innovative Awards
  • To nominate a NAASS member for Distinguished Service and/or  Honorary life Membership, fill out this form
  • To nominate a member for Creative and Innovative Awards, click here
  • Recipients will be honored at the closing banquet of the annual conference in St. Louis on November 14. Deadline to nominate is Friday, September 29.

  • One of the amazing benefits of the NAASS annual conference is having the opportunity to hear from colleagues in summer/special sessions present on trends in higher education, lessons they've learned at their own institutions, innovative strategies and ideas they've implemented to lead summer sessions, and more.

NAASS President-Elect and RVP Nominations

  • NAASS benefits when members step up for key leadership roles within the Association. 
  • Self-nominate or nominate a current NAASS member to the President-Elect position or a Regional Vice President role - nominations are open here until August 2. 
  • Co-leading in a NAASS RVP role is a great way to dive the work and further the NAASS mission!
  • Have a colleague (or two) in mind to nominate for an RVP position?
  • Feel free to nominate additional members - co-led teams are a fantastic model to leading within NAASS!

Two Webinars to RSVP to in the Fall 

  • We already have two fall webinars scheduled for August!
  • The first webinar will be led by members of the conference programming and planning committee on creating a conference proposal for the conference in St. Louis. This webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, August 16, at 1 p.m. Eastern Time
  • The second webinar, scheduled for Wednesday, August 30, at 1 p.m. Eastern, will feature a virtual discussion led by Traction Rec on harnessing the power of cloud-based CRM technology for summer sessions.

Annual Conference in St. Louis - Nov. 11-15, 2023

  • The conference hotel, the Chase Park Plaza, is located in the Central West End neighborhood (pictured below). 
  • St. Louis' Central West End (pictured below) is home to state-of-the-art museums, fine restaurants, and historic neighborhoods that are within walking distance of the Chase.

Renew your NAASS Membership for 2023-2024

  • As the fiscal year for many of our institutions comes to close, there's no better time to renew your NAASS membership for 2023-2024!
  • Receive the membership discount to the 59th annual conference in St. Louis, have access to data and scholarship crucial to the implementation of successful summer-winter programming, and be able to connect with hundreds of higher education administrators when you become a NAASS member.

Conference Proposals Submissions Deadline Extended 

  • The deadline to submit conference proposals has been extended to August 31, 2023!

Creating a Conference Proposal or Poster Session 101 - Webinar Planned for August 

  • Are you interested in presenting at the annual conference but don't know where to start?
  • The Conference Proposal and Poster Committee will host a webinar about how to take the great work you're doing and turn it into a conference presentation that will be engaging and enlightening to your colleagues at NAASS. We'll have breakout rooms where you can workshop a conference proposal with your colleagues.
  • The webinar will be led by Eli Westerman (Yale Summer Session), Lois Kubinak (University of North Carolina Wilmington), Brett Slaughenhaupt (Columbia University), Christopher Pevey Harry (University of Wisconsin-Madison), and other members of the committee. 
  • Save the date for this NAASS webinar: Wednesday, August 16 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. 

Submit the Joint Statistical Report (JSR) Survey 

  • The Quality and Research Committee is still accepting submissions for the JSR survey! 
  • A link to the survey has been sent to the NAASS voting member of each member institution. If you need assistance on determining who the voting member is at your institution, or if you are having trouble locating the survey link, contact us.

Attend the Annual Conference in St. Louis, Nov. 11-15, 2023 

  • Did you know that St. Louis is home to an urban park called Forest Park (pictured below), which is located in the heart of the city and consists of 1,300 acres of land, 30 miles of paths and trails, and home to the Saint Louis Art Museum, Saint Louis Science Center, Missouri History Museum, and the Saint Louis Zoo? 
  • Even better - this park is located just down the street from the annual conference hotel!

Submit the Joint Statistical Report (JSR) Survey 

  • The Quality and Research Committee has launched the 2020-2022 Joint Statistical Report (JSR) survey - the deadline has been extended, and NAASS is still accepting survey submissions. 
  •  A link to the survey has been sent to the NAASS voting member of each member institution. If you need assistance on determining who the voting member is at your institution, contact us.
  • A presentation of findings will be made at the NAASS 59th Annual Conference in St. Louis this coming fall. A full report will be published for members to access and use through the NAASS website. Prior JSR reports are available to members - more information about that can be found here.
